Stirring the Soup-Retirees Luncheon Fellowship meets April 29th
Posted on 12. Apr, 2009 by pking in News
This Spring season the “Stirring the Soup Group” observes the Russian Orthodox calendar. Unlike previous occasions, soup stained shirts and blouses will not be in evidence since soup is being replaced by the more traditional Russian Easter Cake known as “кулич”(usual pronunciation), that is, if a volunteer will bake it. Any volunteers? Sharon Dittmar is in the church office waiting for your call. In any event, a great, gooey American cake will also be served, which will bear the Russian Orthodox sacred Easter symbol, ХВ—can you guess its meaning? The morning’s activities will feature a Russian Easter Egg Hunt, the favorite Paschal sport of the frolicsome Cossack. Stirring the Soup contestants will be in search of a Magic Easter Egg,which will lead to an even greater reward, namely the won- derful “Матрёшка” (usual pronunciation). Folks relying on canes and walkers will in no way be competing at a disadvantage. However, rough-and-tumble tactics such as tripping and shoving will not be tolerated. Any contestant found in possession of a lead- weighted hand-bag or other blunt instrument will be immediately disqualified. In addition to the above proceedings, please consider sharing either a scripture verse or an instance of a significant prompting of the Holy Spirit that brought you a blessing. A blessing might be strength in time of desperate need, comfort for distress, release from gloomy thoughts, knowledge or direction serving to avert disaster, etc. Stirring the Soup will meet in the Great Hall at 11:15 am, give or take, on Wednesday, April 29th.
