Youth to Venture to Charlotte for Operation Christmas Child

Along with helping to run the regional collection center for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes at our church, some of our youth will be traveling to Charlotte, NC to spend their Thanksgiving week at one of the National Processing Centers. There are 2 fund raising opportunities we like to let you know about! Sunday, October 23, the kids will be selling freshly baked chocolate chips cookies before and after worship. On October 30th there will be a soup and sandwich luncheon after worship. Reservations are not required but are helpful. A free will offering will be collected. Quarts are available for purchase ($7.00)

We are Serving Bloomsburg Flood Survivors Saturday October 29

The recent flood in Bloomsburg, PA wreaked havoc on the community and surrounding areas when the Susquehanna River overflowed its banks. The American Red Cross is now reporting that the flood destroyed more than 1,000 homes and did damage to another 2,300 in Columbia County alone.
Residents are still cleaning up the devastation…and they need your help in October.
Group Ministries, whose Workcamps we have gone to for years, is targeting Bloomsburg with The Big Day of Serving which will help with projects like picking up debris, tearing out drywall, and cleaning walls to help residents get their homes prepared for repairs, if they are determined habitable.
Our church is organizing for Saturday, October 29th. We will need to be in Bloomsburg at 7:30 am. The cost is $29/ person to cover materials as well as lunch and dinner. Please bring bottled water. Registration for the 29th is through the church office (524-4419 or info@first-presby.org).
The Big Day of Serving is typically a youth targeted event, but we need the entire church and others you know to partner with us for one Saturday in October. If you are unable to join us on October 29th, work will happen every Saturday in October. Please invite everyone you know to come with you….

People you know from a neighboring community or church
Your family, friends, and neighbors
Choose from a flood relief event any Saturday in October:

Your service will not only make a physical impact on Bloomsburg, but you will offer these residents hope as you serve them.

Where Can I Help??

You have a gift…we have a ministry! Here are some opportunities to volunteer. Sound System Team: Techs will be trained to help with sound and visual components of the worship service as well as recording for shut-ins and podcasts. Dinner by the River: Teams prepare and serve meals to our guests each Thursday. Each team works about once every 3 months. Choir and Bell Choir Members: a fun and fulfilling ministry. No experience required, just a love of music and the Lord. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings. Children’s Ministry Helpers: Wednesday evenings are full of fun and action. Helpers needed as extra hands, eyes and ears to be there for our kids in Kindergarten- 5th grade. Harvest Home Sunday is October 30th

Each year our congregation reaches out to the Presbyterian Home in Williamsport by donating and collecting items for the nursing home pantry. Items needed are #10 (really big) cans of fruit or vegetables, flour, sugar, coffee, pasta, rice, toilet paper and paper towels. Our children will help us dedicate this offering during worship on Sunday, October 30.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner!

Surprises, food and fun at Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. This adult fellowship opportunity will happen October 22nd at 5:30 at host homes. You can sign up to be a host or guest. Hosts will provide entree and beverages and guests will bring appetizers, sides, bread, and dessert .
